Westward Whoa is an animated short film in the Looney Tunes series. It marks the final appearance of Ham and Ex, and the penultimate for Beans and Little Kitty.

Beans and his companions travelling and exploring in a wagon train. At the front, Beans plays an accordion, and Little Kitty strums a banjo. The two also sing while the rest harmonise. Soon the travellers set up camp in the woods and enjoy their night.

Ham and Ex sneak out to explore a bit, but then they notice some feathers around a boulder and raise an alarm of Native Americans. When Beans shoots at the feathers it is revealed to be a turkey. Ham and Ex of course knew that and Beans warns them not to create anymore false alarms.

Just to spice up their little adventure and to entertain themselves, Ham and Ex perform the Indian charge call. This raises another alarm, so Ham and Ex hide in the woods and stumble into an actual Native. The Native gives chase, but the pups escape and head back to camp to warn everyone. No one believes and this is another of their pranks. Ham and Ex then hide themselves in a chest. Shortly the whole Native tribe arrives, alerting the camp. The explorers manage to counter the invasion, while Ham and Ex and nabbed by one of the Natives. Beans rescues them by tossing a foothold trap at their captive. As the pups watch Beans plays a little prank on them with a holler call, scaring them into chest.

Gas is an animated short, directed by Chuck Jones and first released in May, 1944. It features Private Snafu learning the value of a gas mask in warfare. The cartoon was produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons. The script writers for the Snafu cartoons were typically uncredited, though animation historians consider that several of them were written or co-written by Dr. Seuss and Munro Leaf.

The film is set in a military camp, with a sign informing viewers that the camp is situated at a distance of 3642,5 miles (5862 kilometers) from Brooklyn. An alarm alerts the soldiers to wear their gas masks and assemble at a predetermined area of the camp. Every soldier rushes to complete the task, except for Snafu who has trouble locating his gas mask case. He is the last soldier to arrive to the assembly grounds, and has yet to actually wear his mask. When Snafu opens the case, he reaches in and retrieves first a sheer bra, then Bugs Bunny, and last his mask. His lack of organization skills earns him the attention of the officers. He is singled out for additional drill exercises with his gas mask.

Following his training, an exhausted Snafu discards his gas mask and leaves it with the trash waiting to be collected. He proceeds to rest under a tree in an idyllic meadow, at a short distance from the camp. While he rests, a passing airplane sprays poison gas. The gas takes the form of an anthropomorphic gas cloud and parachutes its way to the ground. Spotting Snafu as the easiest target around, it begins surrounding him. As Snafu relaxes under the tree, he comments on "the smell of new-mown hay, apple blossoms, flypaper..." whereupon he finally realizes that he is in danger of being gassed.

Snafu barely manages to escape breathing the gas and "frantically chases the trash truck" to retrieve his gas mask. While the gas cloud seems to sweep over both the soldier and the truck, Snafu emerges triumphant. He had managed to wear the mask before breathing the poison. Night finds Snafu sleeping with his gas mask at hand, "in a lover's embrace". In a flirtatious manner, the mask comments "I didn't know you cared" and the short ends.

Betty Boop's stage show takes a new turn when Pudgy the pup and his feline enemy get into the act.

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer, with help from animators including Grim Natwick. She originally appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop film series, which were produced by Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures. She has also been featured in comic strips and mass merchandising.

A caricature of a Jazz Age flapper, Betty Boop was described in a 1934 court case as: "combin[ing] in appearance the childish with the sophisticatedโ€”a large round baby face with big eyes and a nose like a button, framed in a somewhat careful coiffure, with a very small body of which perhaps the leading characteristic is the most self-confident little bust imaginable". Although she was toned down in the mid-1930s as a result of the Hays Code to appear more demure, Betty Boop became one of the best-known and popular cartoon.

Voiced by Margie Hines, Ann Rothschild, Harriet Lee, Mae Questel, Kate Wright, Bonnie Poe

The Skipper operates a morning trolley train run which gets disrupted by many interlopers. Katrinka, her motto is "I fix", is the star heroine. First the trolley canโ€™t handle a steep hill climb so the passengers get out to help push . . . and then get left behind. Next, "Molly" Moo-Cow chases after the trolley and climbs on, but her weight sends it into a muddy pond. The Skipper calls for Katrinka who pulls him and the trolley out of the mud. Yet even after a quick wash the trolley remains too dirty. So Katrinka repaints it in red. This red color next incites a bull and, after the Skipper's lackluster bullfighting skills, another call to Katrinka is made. She comes to the rescue again and shoves the bull away. The Skipper finally gets to the train station, only to discover the train's been canceled until next week!!

Private Snafu is the title character of a series of black-and-white American instructional cartoon shorts produced between 1943 and 1945 during World War II. The character was created by director Frank Capra, chairman of the U.S. Army Air Force First Motion Picture Unit, and most were written by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel, Philip D. Eastman, and Munro Leaf.[1] Although the United States Army gave Walt Disney the first crack at creating the cartoons, Leon Schlesinger of the Warner Bros. animation studio underbid Disney by two-thirds and won the contract. Disney had also demanded exclusive ownership of the character, and merchandising rights. Nel 2007 shows the goal was to help enlisted men with weak literacy skills learn through animated cartoons (and also supplementary comic books). They featured simple language, racy illustrations, mild profanity, and subtle moralizing. Private Snafu did everything wrong, so that his negative example taught basic lessons about secrecy, disease prevention, and proper military protocols.

Out of the Inkwell was a major animated series of the silent era produced by Max Fleischer from 1918 to 1929. The series was the result of three short experimental films that Max Fleischer independently produced in the period of 1914--1916 to demonstrate his invention, the Rotoscope, which was a device consisting of a film projector and easel used as an aid for achieving realistic movement for animated cartoons. The Rotoscope would project motion picture film through an opening in the easel, covered by a glass pane serving as a drawing surface. The image on the projected film was traced onto paper, advancing the film one frame at a time as each drawing would be made. Fleischer's younger brother Dave Fleischer was working as a clown at Coney Island, and served as the model for what was to become their first famous character that later evolved as "Koko the Clown."

Bobby Bumps was the titular character of a series of silent animated short subjects produced by Bray Productions from 1915-25. Inspired by R. F. Outcault's Buster Brown, Bobby Bumps was a little boy who, accompanied by his dog Fido, regularly found himself in and out of mischief.

The series was created by Earl Hurd, who directed and/or animated most of the entries in the series until he left the Bray studios in 1918. The Bobby Bumps cartoons were the first to be produced using the cel animation process. Previously, animated cartoons were produced using paper animation: a new drawing was made for each frame of film. With cel animation, Bray drew his characters on clear sheets of celluloid, which he placed over still backgrounds during the photography process. Cel animation revolutionized the animation industry, and Hurd and his employer J.R. Bray held a patent for the process (and received licensing payments from all studios using the process) until 1932.

You Don't Know What You're Doin'! is a 1931 animated short subject directed by Rudy Ising and produced by Leon Schlesinger as part of the Merrie Melodies series from the Harman-Ising studios and distributed by Warner Brothers. First released on October 21, 1931, the film is perhaps one of the most amusing and effective of the cartoons from the studio's earliest years.

The story involves the character Piggy, who picks up his girlfriend Fluffy and takes her to a theater where a hot jazz orchestra is playing. Piggy mocks the trumpet soloist, and plays a corny chorus of the 1873 hit "Silver Threads Among the Gold" on the saxophone. The audience, led by three drunk dogs in the balcony, then mock Piggy with the title song "You Don't Know What You're Doin'". Piggy is then joined onstage by one of the drunk dogs (a black dog, perhaps a prototype of Goopy Geer). The dog starts to drink a bottle of bootleg hootch that he has (the film was made during alcohol Prohibition in the USA), and belches in Piggy's face, causing him to get drunk. Piggy snatches the booze and runs out of the theatre with the dog chasing him. He pours some of it into the radiator of an automobile, which arches its back like a frightened cat and takes Piggy for a wild ride through the city. The dog continues to chase after Piggy, but both of them eventually end up in the back of a truck which dumps them into a trash can. Both of them shout out "Whoopee!" as the cartoon comes to an end.

A prospector drives to the hills to dig for gold. A local gas station attendant goes on to explain that the prospector is wasting his time: since 1849, he had been chasing gold strikes around the world and never achieving success. The film shows the attendant's various stops including the California Gold Rush, the Comstock Lode, and various other short appearances that never (literally) pan out. Yet as the attendant finishes his story, a passerby spreads the news that there has indeed been gold found in the hills, to which the attendant steals the prospector's car to get back in on the gold rush and hands the prospector the gas station.

Included in the film is a short, farcical musical number, โ€œMy Sweetheart Needs Gold for Her Deed.โ€

The Two Curious Puppies, one big and one little, are being pursued by a dog catcher until they hide in an abandoned house. They soon discover the house is owned by Sham-Fu, a magician unseen over the course of the short. As a result, each dog (separated from each other shortly after entering the house) encounters all manner of magic tricks, including his pet rabbit (the Bugs Bunny prototype, who still resembles the all-white version seen in Porky's Hare Hunt and has no spoken lines other than a few bouts of maniacal laughter). The big dog is left to defend himself against the rabbit, itself a more than competent illusionist capable of all sorts of acts of cartoon physics, while the little one does battle with a Hindu rope and a magic wand, the latter of which he ends up accidentally swallowing, giving him bizarre hiccups through the rest of the movie.

Ding Dog Daddy was a 1942 color Merrie Melodies cartoon, directed by Friz Freleng and written by Tedd Pierce, Willoughby (voiced by Pinto Colvig), who falls in love with a metal statue of a female dog in a garden, failing to realize that "Daisy" is indeed a sculpture. Whenever Willoughby kisses Daisy, lightning strikes and sends a shock through his system, which he takes as a sign of her passionate love for him. The hero constantly has to contend with a vicious bulldog who is guarding the gate to the garden. After Daisy is carted away in a truck marked "Scrap Metal for Victory" to contribute to the American effort in World War II, Willoughby runs frantically to the munitions depot, calling Daisy's name, only to find a bomb labelled "Daisy". As he cries, "Oh, what have they done to you? They've changed you!", the bomb explodes in his face, leading him to cry out happily, "WWWWWOOOOWWWWW! Huh Huh! She hasn't changed a bit!"

The Pilgrims land at Plymouth Rock and found a colony. A very large number of Pilgrims (some of them caricatures of Avery's animation crew) can be seen standing in line... for their cigarette rations. A Pilgrim goes hunting for a turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner. The turkey outsmarts the pilgrim many times and eventually the two make up and decide to eat at "Joe's restaurant" which is being advertised by a bear, at the end the bear has eaten the two and reveals that he is Joe and the two complain inside the bear's stomach. Many of the gags revolve around life on the home front in the United States during WWII, rationing and the black market. The turkey is a caricature of the comedian Jimmy Durante.

Betty Boop brings home a cat as playmate for Pudgy, but the cat is a bully who only gets Pudgy into trouble.

The image on the projected film was traced onto paper, advancing the film one frame at a time as each drawing would be made. Fleischer's younger brother Dave Fleischer was working as a clown at Coney Island, and served as the model for what was to become their first famous character that later evolved as "Koko the Clown."

In a circus tent, Betty, Bimbo and Koko demonstrate some gadgets reminiscent of TV ads; an animated sewing machine gets out of hand.

So Much for So Little is a 1949 American short documentary film directed by Chuck Jones. It won an Academy Award in 1950 for Documentary Short Subject, tying with A Chance to Live.

The cartoon states that, annually, 118,481 babies out of 2 million will die before reaching their first birthday. Thus, the cartoon shows John E. Jones, a baby that may add to this statistic if not given proper healthcare. The cartoon proceeds to show most of John's life, including his school years, marriage, later life (as a father), and his golden years, providing other helpful health information along the way. Before the cartoon ends, however, it returns to John as a baby, reminding the audience that John needs proper healthcare to survive. The cartoon then states that if every American paid just three cents a week, sufficient healthcare could be provided for John and babies everywhere.

A Corny Concerto is an American animated cartoon short produced by Leon Schlesinger Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. It was directed by Bob Clampett, written by Frank Tashlin, animated by Robert McKimson and released as part of the Merrie Melodies series on September 25, 1943. A parody of Disney's 1940 feature Fantasia, the film uses two of Johann Strauss' best known waltzes, Tales from the Vienna Woods and The Blue Danube, adapted by the cartoon unit's music director, Carl Stalling and orchestrated by its arranger and later, Stalling's successor, Milt Franklyn. Long considered a classic for its sly humor and impeccable timing with the music, it was voted #47 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field in 1994. The title, in tune with the name of the unit's other cartoon series, Looney Tunes, suggests another Disney titling parody, that of the pioneering series Silly Symphonies.

The film begins and ends with a live-action piano player, his singing inexplicably voiced over by Mel Blanc and carried as narration throughout the cartoon, the moth character appears in both scenes, and in the final shot eats the guy's pants right off, sending him clumsily running off into the distance. Plotwise, a wiseguy moth is preparing for his wedding day ("Here comes the groom, straight as a broom, all purtied up with ten-cent perfume"!). He wakes up late, and after getting some breakfast at the bar (A few peoples' pant cuffs) he gets held up by a Black Widow spider, who seduces him with a cigarette lighter (moths are attracted to light, of course).A wacky chase ensues. His bride-to-be, a bee, thinks he's ditched her, and cries...until she realizes something might be wrong and comes to the rescue ("confidentially, she stings!") Also keep an eye out for another unique cartoon filming technique, the photographic backgrounds used for the moth's suit-pocket home and other key scenes.

Popeye's training for his boxing match with Bluto by jumping rope with a massive chain. Bluto, who's lazy about everything except sabotage, decides he needs to stop Popeye. He fills Popeye's heavy bag with iron junk, but Popeye punches it over the fence onto Bluto. Next, he pulls on the springs attached to the wall with a motorcycle, but Popeye pulls so hard he throws Bluto and the cycle through the building and into a well. Popeye is walking -- or actually, prancing -- behind Olive on the way to the match, so Bluto tries a bit more sabotage: first an oil slick, which slows Popeye down briefly, then some quick-dry cement in a puddle. This gives Popeye cement overshoes, and when he gets to the arena, he's exhausted. Olive stands him up, but Bluto treats him like a punching bag. He's got Popeye on the floor (under the ring), so Olive finally breaks out the spinach. Popeye knocks Bluto through the roof, right into the hospital. The photographers ask for a picture, and Popeye's biceps form the words "THE END."

Hamateur Night is a seven-minute animated short film released to theaters by Warner Bros. on January 28, 1939. Directed by Tex Avery and written by Jack Miller, the film was a part of the Merrie Melodies series produced by Leon Schlesinger and distributed by The Vitaphone Corporation. The premise of the film is rather simple; it features a vaudeville-style amateur talent night (see, for example, the contemporary and still-ongoing "Amateur Night" competitions at the Apollo Theater) with a format that resembles the much later television program The Gong Show in that it features a judge who strikes a gong to stop the performance of any entertainer whom he deems bad. The primary character of this short is Egghead, a prototype of Elmer Fudd who lacks the speech impediment of the character he evolved into.

The cartoon entered the public domain in 1967 when its last rightsholder, United Artists Television (successor-in-interest to Associated Artists Productions), failed to renew the original copyright within the required 28-year period.

A spoof on sports champions and sporting events, "bringing you the lowlifes in the world of sports," including ping pong, skiing, track and field, basketball, baseball, football (at "Avery Memorial Stadium"), auto racing, swimming and billiards. Gags include an archery expert hitting the bull's-eye every time; then the camera pulls back to reveal the champion standing a foot away from the target. A gag on a bicycle race has the racers going around and around and around, then stopping suddenly to say, "Monotonous, isn't it!" A diving exhibition shows such popular dives as the swan dive, the jackknife and "Sloppy Joe's.

The "Avery Memorial Stadium" is a reference to Tex Avery.
