During a chaotic era, the Five Venom Sects emerged in the martial world, each corresponding to one of the five poisons in life. The leader of the Holy Scale Sect, Nangong Yi, seeks to fulfill his selfish desires by seizing martial arts secrets from various sects. On a night with no warning, a fierce storm swept through the land. The Tianlong Sect's leader vanished, the Jinwu Sect was brutally exterminated, and the Tiancan Valley disappeared overnight.
During the pursuit of the young heir of the Tiancan Valley, Duguyu, he was saved by a senior disciple who used the Toad God's technique and was subsequently raised by an old rural woman, known as Grandma. Eighteen years later, Duguyu meets Nangong Ling, and they develop affection for each other, unaware that she is the daughter of their arch-enemy, Nangong Yi, who has been searching for Duguyu all these years. When Duguyu is captured, Ling risks her life to rescue him. In an accidental incident, Duguyu falls off a cliff and masters the Toad God's technique.
Seeking revenge, Duguyu confronts Nangong Yi, but Ling sacrifices herself to stop the impending battle, which leads Nangong Yi to madness as he kills his beloved daughter with his own hands. Eventually, Duguyu lets go of his vengeance, and Nangong Yi becomes a madman. In the end, they all lay down their enmity.
