The films opens shown a drawing board containing a bed in which someone under the covers. That someone is being poked but poking back. As the camera reveals it is animator Walter Lantz holding a book with one hand a sword in the other. The Colonel finally comes out from beneath the covers and spars with Lantz until he wins.
